From Dec 2007 (how it went)
I only accomplished 2 of my 7 goals from last year so I'm kinda bummed but my year took a different turn and overall I'm very happy with what I accomplished.
I'm going with 5 goals this year...
1. Get back into my eating and exercise routine (no soda or fast food for first 6 months of the year) (went well for a while and like always - crash and burn le sigh)
2. Read 50 books (I only finished 30 something this year) (oh so freaking close, I read 48, I've started the 49th)
3. Find a way to get my website up and running (Well, its not a full site but it is a start http://solematetoys.com )
4. Network locally to expand and promote my business. Find out what my local options are more fully (actually I have enough biz resolutions to make another list. My business is going to be a big focus for me this year) (I could have done more but I was invited to join a spring Craft Expo in '09 so I'm pretty happy. I also joined a local craft group on etsy.)
5. Buy or Do a little something fun for myself once a month and NOT feel guilty about it! ( The cashflow got in the way of this but I can't complain. I've ended the year on a super positive note)

We have had some really big changes in the last few months. Most notable are the move and my husband getting a new job that has in him another state at least 7 days at a time. He left Nov.30th and returned Dec.22nd this last shift but I think that is not going to happen again because it's just too long.
I have to start being more mindful of my priorities and putting toy making and house management higher on the list. We are considering a dog which would be a huge change. We are traveling to Texas in Feb for some friend visiting and a pro hockey game for the boys.
There are some changes coming for the podcast too and you will hear all about that soon.
I'm also going to give Project 365 a try, I'll dedicate a set for those pics on my flickr and I'm sure I'll be linking to the shots often.

A lil post holiday msg.
Usually I am a holiday SAP but this year I was meh the whole time. I enjoyed buying stuff my kids would like but I just didn't care about the actual holiday or decorating or any of it really. I skated by and did anything the kids wanted but the heart wasn't in it like in years past.
Cam got the only thing he asked for.
Teagan got a VERY large gift the language used to assemble that was not G rated.
And it seems like it's not a real holiday unless it involves the Wii...
And for good measure here are the kids again... Cam, 12
Teagan, 8

But I'm back, I know you missed me!
If you haven't visited recently you should head over to Sole Mate Toys there are some new pics and updates.
Here are a few pics of our new apt. area. Not inside, I need to clean first. lol

It is times like this that I wish I were more eloquent
I am filled with emotions and speechless all at once. This election was historic regardless of the outcome. Of course I happen to be in the lucky majority this cycle and my guy won.
I am just bursting with pride and love for this country. I'm so happy that enough people felt we needed a change, that the last 8 years could not be allowed to continue. I feel I can hold my head up tonight as the rest of the world looks on, and I have not felt that pride in far too long. I do not think Barack Obama is a "God", I do not think he is perfect. I think he will make mistakes and have missteps in the next 4 years. But I feel confident that he will set things in motion for this contry and put us back on the path of being worthy and great... we earned those titles before and I know we can again.
Thank you America, Thank You!

Just a quick "blog by"...
The husband got a new job and we are moving to a new apt. So I'm in the middle of homeschooling, purging, packing and holiday crapola. Ahhhh! lol
I will be back to normal soon but just wanted to give a lil update.

So in Cajun country it's Geaux Obama!
Look at what one of the members of my homeschool group shared.... She is in the band. *clap*
Woohoo! Louisiana for Obama

My liberal "gotcha" media bias.. or this blog is Pro-Obama
I could not be more pro-Obama if I were Obama.
Do you know who Shepard Fairey is? He is the artist behind the gorgeous red/white/blue Hope, Change, Progress posters. Visit His Site
I think he is brilliant and I love these prints. I played around with them today for my desktop and I thought I'd share...
Here is a ss of my desktop
Here is the horizontal that I currently have. I added in Fairey's vote print also because I like balance and even things.
and I did a 4 sq. set up also
so there ya go, I think they make great desktop images. Show off your O love as the weeks countdown to our new Mr. President.

It is ALL Nicole's fault.
She forced me to make a wishist... so I might as well share just in case my sugardaddy is reading my blog. lol

I have been offered a booth at a local expo. It's not until April but I need to get busy so that I have enough toys to actually sell. I'm super excited and I'll update with more info on this blog and the Sole Mate website.

I'm still working on my H-ween stuff... procrastination is a disease and I'm infected. trying to deal with school/family/finding a new place to live dramas so here is a quick little blog for you.
From Friday Fun
1. Are you still close to your childhood friends? How have those friendships changed? I met my bff in 10th grade, she is the other half of my brain. Other than getting older, fatter and having kids we haven't really changed.
2. Do you think online friendships can be as close as IRL friends? Why or why not? Absolutely! Often I think you can get to a deeper level of friendship more quickly because there is so much conversation and sharing information. Some of my dearest friends were people I "met" online.
3. A lot of people think that marital problems should stay private. While sometimes that might be true, I don’t think it is always so. Sometimes you just need to talk it out with a friend. What is your feeling on the subject? Well i think you need to have boundaries and use a mental/mouth filter here and there but I usually need my bff to work through my feelings, thoughts and vent some of the raw emotion so I don't blast my dh. It has saved his butt more often then he realizes.
4. Have you ever felt betrayed by a friend? Were you able to work through it or did it end the friendship? I have and the friendship continued for a bit but finally ended. Only in looking back was I able to see just how deeply she had used me.
5. Do you have friends from days past that you wish were still in your life? There are a few that I would love to reconnect with but overall I am very happy with the friends I have and I don't pine for the past.

Ok now what I've watched...
Well now you have seen the books I've read so far in 2008, how about a movie list.
Hopefully this works... http://www.imdb.com/mymovies/list?l=38922287

Good Reads, well sometimes
Books I've read so far in 2008. Man I've read some total crap. lol Oh well, at least I read, right? ;) You should recommend some new books for me. :D
Better than Botox
We got a face lift!
I thought my little blog needed some updates. So we upgraded to the "new" blogger, changed the title and description and of course got my girl a brand new dress (template) to show off.
I think she looks lovely. :D

Laptop sleeve
I was inspired by this http://blog.betzwhite.com/2008/08/sketchy-maclaptop.html But she knows how to use a sewing machine and her end product is much nicer.
Mine is hand sewn and is pretty good, IMO.
This was the first attempt. I liked the panels and I was proud of my work but it was too loose so they had to go.
Right now the screen is still blank because the lines weren't coming out right and I was really tired of putzing with it. I'm not sure if it is going to have lines or not by the time I have to leave. I think it is pretty cute even blank though lines would make it much better. I should have tried to add them before I sewed the panel in but if there is a hard way to do something I will certainly find it. I'll get a pic later of it on the laptop so you can get a better idea of it.
That's all for now, folks
xoxo
p.s. Ok I needed to take pics for the other blog Sole Mate Toys so I went ahead and slipped the laptop in the sleeve for you. ;)

Right as rain
and we are getting lots of rain! Ugh as if the storm wasn't bad enough. Bleh
Anyway Gustav ended up being no big concern at our house, we never even lost power. So now we are just storing supplies and keeping an eye on the weather channel.
We were very lucky. Many areas were hit hard, They are saying that Houma may be without power for a month. :(

The Final Countdown... Waiting for Gustav
That earworm is my parting gift to you. lol
Well, it is Sunday morning. Contraflow has started in my area, I think it started yesterday in the NO area.
We are stocked up on non perishables and water. I spent yesterday cooking some of the stuff in the freezer and doing some prep work to make grill cooking easier in case we are without power for a while.
Everything is off the floor just in case and we have a second floor that we can camp out on if things get soggy. ;)
I'll be online until the minute we lose power but this will probably be my last official blog until after Gustav has passed and life starts going back to normal. I have my camera so maybe I'll get some good storm/damage shots for you.
Keep us in your thoughts. See you on the other side.

I rarely talk about HS stuff on here because, well I dunno why really but it just never comes up.
Lately I'm feeling again like I have no idea wtf I'm doing. I honestly think I suck at this and I am not that sure that my kids might not do better going off to school. Okay well that's really not true... I mean hello I live in Louisiana, public school is not an option.
Many of the members of my HS group are free spirited and lean toward the unstructured and child led learning models. I read of how their kids love to explore and learn and do all of this great stuff. You know what my kids love? TV, reading for fun, Wii, goofing off.
Hi, I'm Michelle and I have lazy children...
Don't get me wrong, they are great kids and they have chores (they have to be reminded/nagged to do them) and they will do what they have to do... but not one bit more. Our days are filled with negotiations and compromises. "Do I HAVE to do #3 in my daily grams?" Cameron (12) wanted to do something different today and I suggested he read a book off the shelf. He picked a book of Greek Myths... first thing out of his mouth was "Exactly how long do I HAVE to read?" And what I heard was "I'd hate to do one minute more than I might be required!"
Am I doing something wrong? Am I failing? Do all homeschoolers and parents in general have these fears or am I a total freak... don't answer that. ;)
I just want to feel like I am doing a good job, this is the only one I have and it sucks to feel sub par when it's all you have to accomplish. I want them to be good people and I think they will be but I also want them to be as smart as possible and have the best start they can when they leave my house and I'm afraid that I'm failing hard on that account.
Sigh, tomorrow is another day I guess.

I know, I know!!
I'm still working on a big order. 2 bunnies and the octo are done, I'm almost done with the boy monkey and I have to do a girl monkey. And I had two bunnies to do right before I started this current order.
Once this order is complete I'm going to be making some changes, the biggest is setting up a separate blog for Sole Mate Toys. I'm still debating keeping this blog for my personal stuff or starting a fresh one... laziness will probably win out on that one.
Big news - I have a laptop WOOT! and a new camera.
New camera pictures...
I'll be in touch soon... I swear!

Here is our fabulous new bug house. How cute is she! *love*
my computer has a power button, who knew?
Today I tried a little thing I like to call "going offline" If you are feeling lightheaded you may need to rest before you continue.
My internet was out so I spent a day with no computer or phone (digital).
Today I...
put away a mountain of clothes
made a new improved bughouse for Teagan. Pictures coming soon, the paint is drying I have to screen it tomorrow.
dismantled a broken futon and took it to the dumpster. I even used tools... allen wrenches and pliers count as tools, right?
cleaned the kitchen
started a gecko
cleaned off my big living area flat surfaces... desk and dining room table
go me!

how many readers will I bore today
I'm wishing I had a page with diff sections , one for crafts, one for family stuff and maybe another for homeschooling. lol
I've been rather productive this week but it's all domestic crap. I made a shark and a puppy... i'll do pics later, too lazy now.
Yesterday the kids and I made ketchup and I've made homemade tortillas twice this week... SO yummy. I'm totally bonding with hillbillyhousewife.com and her from scratch and frugal ideas.

Started the day with getting dinner in the crock pot before 8am, always a great way to kick off the day!
Today we did spelling and grammar, both of those are daily subjects. Then we started the fun stuff...
We started a composting experiment.
We made paper - we need better tools for that!
I made homemade pizza for lunch
Teagan did a cave painting to go with the first chapter in Story of The World
Tea and I made choc-chip raisin granola bars
Here is a pic of Teag doing her painting, you can see the paper in the bottom corner.
Finished product :D

Well we got the official word today... not approved for a home loan. Even if Chris gets the new job the most we could get approved for is 100K. Hmm, yea that's not going so far in today's housing market.
So now we are stuck with the so not fun task of trying to find a rental (home preferably) that allows cats, has 3 bedrooms and is in our not so high monthly budget. Excuse me while I laugh... or cry, either way. ;) Basically we are going to need to get insanely lucky. So cross your fingers for us.

Onward and upward or some such... right?
I'm supposed to record tonight with Nic and Will so that should be fun.
Tomorrow the kids and I start back to school. This year we are doing a more relaxed Well-Trained Mind approach. I've not actually read TWTM but I know I'm doing a lot of stuff they recommend. lol We are only doing 4 day weeks and should only have 3 subjects a day. Hopefully all 3 of us will have more fun this year.
I have a few sock toy ideas rattling around on my mental list to start this week. My top design plans are Shark, T-Rex and I'm working out the last kinks of a Mermaid. :D I need to get a few things made and uploaded to my etsy because I'm all empty over there and that will never do.
I made dh watch Bring It On! for the first time yesterday. *rofl* I love that movie.

Bleh, good riddance.
Ok so talk about girl stuff ahead.. you've been warned.
I thought I was pregnant and at first EEK, WTF. Then the next day was more like.. well it won't be that bad. And of course that quickly moved into awwwwww, another sweet little chubby cheeked baby to snuggle. *love*
Well... I'm not. :( I"m sad and crampy and feel like crud and I'm all hormonal so I'm tearing up over nothing. Oh being a girl is FUN!
Sigh, anyway.
Tomorrow I have to organize some school stuff because we are supposed to start back to work on Monday. I have to make a list of lenders to contact about getting pre-qualified for a home loan. SIGH

I can't remember. lol
Dh (dear husband, yes it's a lame "net-ism" but I'm lazy and it's short so suck it!) has been home for a 4 day weekend and I've been occupied. We've had a great time, played games with the kids, eaten some great food and some junk, watched tv and movies and basically reconnected. It has been a wonderful time but today is the last day so I have to think about getting out of vacation mode. But not just yet...
This morning he cleaned the kitchen and now he has the kids at the pool. *dreamy sigh* When they get home we have grilling, banana splits and a family movie planned.
Long weekends are pretty awesome.

I was super duper productive today.
Cleaned the kitchen 3 times
Made a huge freezer batch of waffles for the spawn
Put away my laundry
Washed the kids bed stuff
Read Atonement for 2 hours
I was going to start sewing on the elephant but I've managed to lose the color I set aside SIGH so now I have to re-colormatch so I can start tomorrow.
And lastly I played games with each kid, had dinner and watched tv with my hubby.

Had a mostly lazy day. Washed all the laundry but didn't get any of it put away. Read a bit more out of Atonement, still meh-ish on it. Don't hate it but I'm not in love either.

I can't believe I forgot yesterday. Bleh
We had a huge nasty storm in the early hours. Lots of tornadoes, some major building damage in town and other areas but we were fine. My comp wanted to pretend that it was dead though and I wasn't real happy with that. I finally got it back and running around lunch time.
Then we did Chess and home/dinner/fambly stuffs the rest of the night. Dh is home today, he's out right now and then we are all going to Kelda's, he's going to drop us off and He and Teagan are going to go off and do some father/daughter stuff. *love*
I need to finish that damn giraffe this weekend and start on my book club book, other than that I'm just vegging I guess.

Have they met me?
Apparently I'm only 55% addicted to the internet.
Bet I can guess what Nicole's would be. *snicker*
And actually, reading that result does sound a LOT like me. Ok so I guess they have met me.

I started a book club with some other homeschooling moms today. Our first selection is Atonement. We are going out to dinner in 2 weeks to discuss. YAY!

I managed a whopping 5.. yes FIVE minutes on my fitness flyer (FF) today. Gah, wow I'm way sad. Hey, maybe I can get 6 minutes tomorrow. lol
Tomorrow I have our monthly homeschool meeting which I love and I think Nic and I are going to try to record which I also love. I get to dish on some RL people so it should be a gooood show. ;)

Ok I'm setting out to gain like 100 lbs this weekend. Cake and ice cream and big huge breakfast (being cooked right now by my dearest husband) and other assorted crap!
The good news is I got a knock off gazelle thingy free from a friend. It's a "fitness flyer" but wtf ever it's going to be awesome. And it was free so WOOT!
I got the bestest package of yarn bits from Nicole. I use them for hair or tail bits on the sock toys. She sent a TON and a cool ikea thingy to store them in and the most adorable korker bows for Teagan.
Precious!
Ok I have some other stuff to say but I'll save it for tomorrow.
xoxo
Happy Mom's Day if you are a mom and you care about that kinda stuff. ;)

I just posted this to a local mom board but I've decided I'm going to blog it also.
I need... something
I don't know what. More friends maybe? I have acquaintances but most don't seem to move past the being friendly when we are around each other... we don't talk on the phone or do anything together.
I moved to LA from FL 2 years ago and I left my bff of 17 years behind and I'm still sad over it.
I homeschool so I have my kids a lot and dh is applying for an offhore job so you know how that goes. lol I'm 32 and I have a 12yo son so playgroups and mom things have often been weird because I was a younger mom with an older child.
I'm not even sure what I want really because I don't have $ to really go out with friends even if I had them. I think I just needed to vent and feel sorry for my lonely self for a minute. I guess it's just one of those days.
_________________
The older I get the more I'm feeling this sense of being... lost. I think part of it is that the kids are getting older and in turn require so much less of me. They are easier to care for in many ways and leaves my resources less taxed and I'm wanting something to fill that void. My little biz is fairly successful considering it's size but I need more interpersonal connections. I just need more of something.

srsly, where is it hiding.
I have orders I need to work on, I have things I need to do. I'm all in school stuff mode and I'm letting other stuff slip and that's not so good.
Sigh, maybe I'll do better tomorrow

Part of my HS order from amazon has been shipped and as I was looking over the email I see that I somehow put two of the same study guides in the cart... mother humper. So I wasted $20. GAH, I am an idiot. And sending it back looks like a pita and they are going to charge me for shipping regardless. I think I will just take it to the Home School Cottage and see if Kelda wants to consign it.
I'm going to take our text books and stuff from this past year in on Friday. Time to clean and organize for the new year. We will start back to school as soon as everything arrives and I have a few days to flip through it and decide how best to proceed. I'm looking fwd to it. I have a 7th and a 3rd grader this year!
My bff here in LA has decided to HS her 3 (she has another on the way) and we are going to do art and spanish together, the kids are looking fwd to that part.
I know this was boring to all non HSers but sorry... lol Love ya anyway.

Well we got our prebate cashola on Friday and it is gone. Sigh lol
It went to all of the stuff it was earmarked for... a bit of debt and buying the school stuff for this year.
Nicole is bragging that she had blogged early and has tomorrows blog all ready to go in her fancy flock bloggy whatever. :razz
I can't think far enough ahead to blog today and write extra blogs. You are lucky you are getting this much. lol Oh, in case you were wondering, Cameron's rash is much better today.

Tomorrow is the running of the ducks, hopefully it doesn't rain on us.

woot day one... thirty more to go. Scintillating topics right out of the gates, yes?
I said I would blog for 31 days NOT that they would be anything you give a flying crappola to actually read. ;)
I'm toying with chopping my hair off again, not bald obviously but shorter. And possibly doing some unnatural coloring of the remaining shafts. hee hee I said shafts...
Anyway, it's all up in the (h)air but I'm sure before May is over I will have bored you to tears over it and possibly even decided something. yay

join nicole and I while we...
blog everyday in May!
Yes, every single day - all 31 of them.
You don't have to write sonnets or epics worthy of Shakespeare, just write something. Everyday. lol

A real blog entry, I swear!
No kid pics or sock creatures... just words.
Holy crap, It's almost MAY! Ugh, time seems to be slipping by me at an ever increasing speed, is there some kind of time warp that correlates with age? Time seemed to move by so slowly when I was younger and now it just whips past leaving me in the dust. Sigh
I've been busier lately with sock stuff and my home has suffered from the neglect. So I think today is going to be a domestic day. Cleaning, cooking, doing some prep stuff to get through the week with as little trauma as possible.
All of my recent orders have been shipped and the one that have arrived have been well received which makes me amazingly happy. I have a few new orders to start on this week and that gave me the excuse I needed to go sock shopping @ Target... YAY!
Yesterday we took the kids bowling and then we went to see Horton Hears a Who, it was such fun. We will buy it when it comes out. Cam got to try out his new ball and it rocked, I think he will improve as he gets more used to it. It's a 12lb, the score for his first game was 112 I think and he bowled a 99 his second game. Teagan bowled an 86 on her first game of the day!!! No bumpers even so it's a true 86. We were very impressed.
Ok... it's almost 5am, my hubby's stupid alarm clock made sure I was up and awake at 3, grrr. So I might as well go get started on that kitchen before the kids get up and harass me.

Teagan's hair donation - pic heavy
Im quite sure that you'll tell me Just how I should feel today
Ok so it's not really a "blue" monday but bleh anyway.
I have to go take Teagan to get that tooth pulled and my son seems to have developed some type of plague... FUN!
Sigh, but such is life right?
My kitchen is a wreck because I was out all weekend. Sat I went to a homeschooling workshop and had a good time. My friend Megan printed up the brochures for my Sole Mates and now they are hanging out with my toys here http://www.schoolcottage.com/
And Sunday we did birthday stuff and had a good time until Cam started feeling under the weather. :(
Ok so today's agenda...
dentist
walgreens for ethedent refill for Tea and cold meds for Cam
kitchen - eek
lunch - cake = yum!
cutting Teas hair for donation - pics will follow of course!

Just a quick whine ( don't have time for a longer one lol) about my schedule for the next week...
Today is Monday and the kids had to go to the dentist - yay no cavities
Tuesday = Homeschool meeting, teen committee and my husband's birthday *love*
Wednesday = Bowling league, Hubby is going to get off work early and surprise us @ the bowling alley because it's Cameron's birthday. Then we are going to go get Cam his gift - a custom bowling ball and go out to dinner.
Thursday = A quietish day, only chess club
Friday = Take cam to his Heroscape game @ the Home School Cottage
Sat = drive back to the cottage for a HS Workshop
Sun = Go bowling with my friends family, our boys share a b-day and then back to her house for a cook out and cake!
Monday = back to the dentist to have one of Teagan's teeth pulled. It's causing her midline to shift to the left... whatever that means. I guess it's bad. lol
Then repeat with committees and bowling and chess and heroscape... every week. BLEH
And in the middle of that somewhere I'm going to find time to make more toys. lol Some are going to the cottage this week, I'm very excited. :D
